Discover William Robert's Hutchinson custom helmet
Hutchinson and William Robert have released a new video edit in celebration of the freeride mountain biker joining Hutchinson’s sponsored helmet program.
Reserved only for Hutchinson riders that are the best of the best, William Robert follows in the footsteps of Olympic Gold Medal winning Triathlete Alex Yee and 2019 Enduro World Series winner Isabeau Courdurier. We spoke with William to learn more about his journey into Freeride and what he has planned for the next 12 months.
Tell us more about how you got into riding Freeride and what keeps you riding.
“I started cycling with BMX when I was eight years old then graduated to freeride in around 2012 when I got my first ‘big bike’ at the age of 16. I went to the bike park and immediately fell in love with everything about freeride; the speed, the big jumps, the huge FMX style tricks, it all clicked and I knew it was for me. Even more so today, I love how ‘free’ the discipline is- our events feel more like big jams than competitions and the support everyone has for each other is unreal.”
What have you been up to so far this year and what’s in the pipeline?
“In February we rode Johny Salido’s Freeride Fiesta at La Soledad Bike Park in Guadalajara, Mexico which was crazy. For the rest of the year I’ll be doing everything I can to try and grab a spot at Red Bull Rampage. I’m hoping to hit a few events on the FEST Series to prepare and I want to work on more video projects. My long term goal is to compete at Rampage but aside from that a project close to my heart would be to create a full length bike film.”
Tell us more about working with Hutchinson?
“I really like the bond I have with Hutchinson. I’ve always got on really well with everyone here and they create tyres that suit me and the disciplines I ride perfectly. To represent a French brand that is not too far from home is always a pleasure so to be recognised with the Hutchinson helmet sponsorship is really special.”
