The double-thickness casing increases sidewall stiffness to limit tire squirm at low pressure and offer a quicker steering response. Optimal casing deflection maximizes tire contact patch so you get the full benefit of fatter rubber, and anti-puncture reinforcement under the tread limits flats from thorns and other objects.
